Age and Hometown: 49 years young on Jan. 25th. We moved to TC 12 years ago from Chapel Hill, NC.
Current Resident of: Traverse City
Family: George, husband of almost 25 years, and George (22) and Sarah (18)
Years Running: 30+
Why do you run: Running allows me to get outside in nature to reset myself. Running makes me feel invincible, like I can accomplish everything! Even though plenty of people are faster than me, I love that I can just run for MY best. Running is my “alone” time when I have the chance to think things over and put them in perspective. Running also feeds my need for self-discipline. Lastly, I love how running puts you in an instant community whenever you are out running or at a race.
Running Accomplishments: I ran over 30 races last year, participating in the Grand Prix series. It was so much fun because it took me to races I would have never gone to otherwise. I also ran the Boston Marathon in 2017 and plan to run it again in April 2018.
Favorite Race(s): Boston, Bayshore Half, Cherry Festival Half, Vineyard to Bay and really all the races on the Grand Prix are great!
Favorite Running Race Distance: Half or full marathon
Favorite Pre-race meal: Banana or Lara bar
Any Goals for 2018: I would like to continue in my training for Boston, but also explore some other training programs/techniques, just to mix it up some this year.
Favorite Running Quote:
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.” and
“So, I run with purpose in every step…” 1 Corinthians 9:26
Best running advice given to me: Train fast to race fast, run the mile you’re in and don’t beat yourself up if something doesn’t go as planned.
Dumbest running moment: Not hydrating well the day before a race.
What other interests do you have outside of running?
Paddle boarding, biking, hiking, gardening, knitting/crocheting and most of all, being with my family and friends.
How do you feel about and how do you plan to represent the Traverse City Track Club as a Race Team member?
I am so grateful to be on the Race Team again this year.
Being part of TCTC this past year was such a blessing. I was able to meet and get to know so many people this year. Just having the support and friendship of so many people has been great. I love how the running community has really become my extended family!
